HCMC – Vietnam will face South Korea in the men’s football semifinal at the 18th Asian Games 2018 in Indonesia this Wednesday. The event has created multiple opportunities for Vietnamese tourism companies to sell their tours to clients visiting the neighboring country.

Dozens of major tour operators in Hanoi, Danang and HCMC are now offering tours to Indonesia. They include Hanoi Redtours, Bluesky Travel, Esperantotur, Vietravel, Vitours, Transviet Travel, Saigontourist, Fiditour and TST Tourist.

The tour packages have been designed to enable Vietnamese soccer fans to travel to Indonesia before the start of the semifinal and return to Vietnam after the end of the match.

The average tour price ranges from some VND12 million (US$516) per person for those departing from HCMC to some VND16 million (US$687) per person for those departing from Hanoi City.

HCMC-based Fiditour is offering Free & Easy tours, in which soccer fans in HCMC can buy round-trip air tickets to Jakarta, the capital and largest city of Indonesia, for some VND9.5 million (US$408) per person.

“Many clients asked us to buy them air tickets and tours to Indonesia after (the men’s football team) Olympic Vietnam won against Syria. Owing to the high demand, (the prices of) various services, such as air fares and tickets to the stadium (during the semifinal), have increased, so our company has no other choice but to adjust the tour price,” said Tran Thi Bao Thu, director of Marketing and Communications at Fiditour.

Another HCMC-based travel firm Vietravel has raised the prices of its tours from HCMC and Hanoi by VND1 million to VND12.99 million and VND15.9 per person, respectively.

Meanwhile, Saigontourist Travel Service Co. has maintained the price of its package tours at VND11.99 million per person as it did in the case of the other football matches.

National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines also plans to increase its flight frequency to Jakarta. On Monday, the carrier started introducing flights as Olympic Vietnam entered the quarterfinals.

The Vietnamese team defeated Syria, thanks to Van Toan Nguyen’s winning goal in the extra time of the second period at Patriot Chandrabhaga Stadium in Bekasi, east of Jakarta.
