HANOI – Only innovations with sound visions can help ASEAN countries develop in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR 4.0), Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh said at the closing ceremony of the 2018 World Economic Forum on ASEAN (WEF ASEAN 2018), held today, September 13, in Hanoi.

The forum, under the theme “ASEAN 4.0: Entrepreneurship and the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” concluded after three days of nearly 60 rounds of discussions.

Deputy PM Binh stressed that WEF ASEAN 2018 was held in the context of the enhancement of regional connectivity, fast and complicated regional and global developments and the increasingly significant impacts of IR 4.0.

WEF ASEAN 2018, which is Vietnam’s largest multilateral diplomatic activity this year, was attended by some 1,000 senior officials of different economies and representatives of global corporations.

He said the forum created a great opportunity for enterprises to share innovative ideas and invest in smart education in ASEAN countries.

He spoke of valuable recommendations to help people, especially youth, approach advanced technologies and meet the requirements of new jobs, and expected WEF to strengthen the coordination with ASEAN countries to put initiatives into practice.

The world is moving quickly due to the use of new technologies, creating both opportunities and challenges for ASEAN in realizing the ASEAN Community Vision 2025. Therefore, the Governments and enterprises in the region should continue promoting their strengths and supporting innovation to become the driving force of the region’s growth, Deputy PM Binh noted.

Vietnam pledged to accompany WEF and other ASEAN countries in working out solutions to various issues and to create a healthy business environment for local and foreign enterprises.

At the ceremony, WEF President Borge Brende said WEF ASEAN 2018 was successful. ASEAN is a fast-growing region, with twofold gross domestic product growth against 2010, and Vietnam is a typical example of this, he added.
