Juventus opens football academy in Vietnam

HCMC - Italian football club Juventus in coordination with Binh Minh Sports JSC launched Juventus Academy Vietnam, the club’s first venture in Southeast Asia, on September 30.

Addressing the launch ceremony in HCMC, Nguyen Huu Thang, chairman of Binh Minh Sports and former head coach of Vietnam’s national football team, said the cooperation between the company and Juventus will create an optimal environment for Vietnamese children to nurture their passion for football.

Based in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau with modern facilities and equipment, the Juventus Academy Vietnam provides football training of European standards as well as nutritional care and lessons on culture, foreign languages and life skills. It will also help promote football coaching at grassroots level in schools and in the community.

Former football star David Trezeguet, representative of Juventus Football Club, said the Italian club hopes to contribute to global football development by opening a series of Juventus Academies in many countries around the world, and this is the right time to launch the Juventus Academy Vietnam, which aims to find, train and promote young, talented Vietnamese players.

The Juventus Academy Vietnam also took the occasion to introduce its first batch of trainees, including 30 trainees aged 11 and 30 others aged 13.

Nguyen Truong Anh Phuc, 11, from HCMC, said: “I had done my best to pass the tests and become a trainee at the Juventus Academy Vietnam. Football is my biggest passion and I hope to become a professional player in the future.”

The academy will also organize a number of community-based football activities for children aged between 3 and 17, during which outstanding players will be selected to join the professional program.

Nicknamed the Old Lady, Juventus FC has won 34 titles, including 13 Coppa Italia titles, seven national Super Cups, two Intercontinental Cups, two European Cups/UEFA Champions Leagues, one European Cup Winners’ Cup, and a national record of three UEFA Cups, two UEFA Super Cups and one UEFA Intertoto Cup.

The club has been home to world-famous players like Michel Platini, Roberto Baggio, Zinédine Zidane, Pavel Nedved, Fabio Cannavaro, Alessandro Del Piero, Gianluigi Buffon, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Nicklas Bendtner, and most recently Christiano Ronaldo.
