HANOI – Ride-hailing service company Grab on October 1 organized a press conference to announce the official launch of its food delivery service, called GrabFood, in Hanoi after over one month of running a pilot operation.

By using the GrabFood service, people in the capital city can stay at home or in their offices and enjoy a wide range of delicious dishes ordered over the Grab app thanks to Grab’s delivery staff, who are also GrabBike driver-partners. The service is suitable for busy people or those who are hesitant to travel during peak hours in the city.

Following the official introduction of GrabFood to the capital city’s districts, Hanoi became the second city in Vietnam to receive Grab’s ride-hailing services such as GrabTaxi, GrabCar and GrabBike; logistics service GrabExpress; and GrabFood through the Grab app.

Jerry Lim, general director of Grab Vietnam, said that it took an average of 25 minutes for an order to be completed. Grab is making great efforts to reduce the duration to 20 minutes.

In Hanoi, GrabFood’s business partners have increased eightfold after one month of running the service on a trial basis.

Meanwhile, in HCMC, GrabFood ran pilot operations in May and officially rolled out the service one month later, recording remarkable growth every month. Last month alone saw the number of GrabFood orders month-on-month doubling .

With the new GrabFood service, the income of GrabBike drivers in both cities picked up by 20% on average.

Grab has connected with thousands of restaurants and food stores in HCMC and Hanoi to add them to the GrabFood platform.

When a customer makes an order on GrabFood, the app automatically suggests a list of food stores near the customer based on the navigation feature. The customer can track the delivery person’s position in real time. Moreover, he or she can use GrabChat to discuss with the driver any issues involving the order.

Apart from this, a Grab representative said that GrabFood will diversify its payment methods by adding an online payment function to better serve customer demand.
