National Assembly convenes sixth sitting today

The sixth sitting of the 14th National Assembly was just opened in the capital city of Hanoi this morning. According to NA General Secretary Nguyen Hanh Phuc, legislators will vote for the State presidency post with the sole candidate being Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong this afternoon, and the result will be announced tomorrow afternoon. The NA is scheduled to conduct a vote of confidence this Wednesday on 48 key civil servants holding positions for which they were elected or approved by the law-making body during the sitting.

Site clearance report for Long Thanh airport late

The completion and appraisal of the feasibility study for the site clearance project for Long Thanh International Airport in the southern province of Dong Nai is slower than required, according to a government report. The reasons are that there are no specific regulations regarding the job, and there is not a precedent for the provincial government to base on in making the feasibility study, prompting them to meet with difficulties.

Drunk driver causes serious accident at Hang Xanh Intersection

A female driver, who was allegedly drunk, late last night, October 21, went out of control and crashed her sedan into a series of bikes waiting for green light at Hang Xanh Intersection in HCMC’s Binh Thanh District. The crash claimed one live at the site and injured many people. The car then hit a taxicab before stopping, local media reported.

Southern region forecast to be heavily flooded this weekend

Many low-lying areas in the south, comprising HCMC, Can Tho City, Vinh Long Province and coastal areas of the Mekong Delta will likely suffer heavy flooding, as water levels downstream the Mekong Delta River are forecast to rapidly surge this weekend, Thanh Nien newspaper reported, citing the southern weather center as saying.

National highway renovation needs VND300 trillion

National highways throughout the country will need funding at an estimated VND300 trillion for renovation works in the next ten years, according to Nguyen Van Huyen, head of the Directorate for Roads of Vietnam.
