HCMC – The Saigon Times Group today, November 2, introduced the online version of its English daily newspaper at on the occasion of the 23rd anniversary of The Saigon Times Daily and the 27th anniversary of The Saigon Times Weekly.

Pham Huu Chuong, deputy editor-in-chief of the group, said digital technologies have altered the way people get news. Therefore, the group has developed the online news website in English to instantly inform readers, especially foreign ones, of what is happening in HCMC and Vietnam as a whole.

"Digital technologies have fundamentally changed the media landscape in our society. And the new media landscape has altered how people consume news, as mobile devices have become one of the most common ways to access news in real time," he said.

"We at the Saigon Times are aware that we cannot buck this popular trend. So we’ve decided to develop the website of our print edition The Saigon Times Daily into an online news site."

The site has been designed as simple as possible to help readers navigate fast and easily.

Speaking at the ceremony, Singapore's Consul General in HCMC Leow Siu Lin said, "For the diplomatic community, The Saigon Times Daily and The Saigon Times Weekly are our go-to sources for timely and reliable news. They offer incisive, independent and in-depth views on a wide range of issues facing Vietnam today."

It also brings corporate information to its audience in an objective way, Lap added.

The Saigon Times Group, a news media organization based in HCMC, publishes Vietnamese business weekly Thoi Bao Kinh Te Sai Gon, Vietnamese online newspaper Thoi Bao Kinh Te Saigon Online, Vietnamese consumer newspaper Sai Gon Tiep Thi and its online version Sai Gon Tiep Thi Online, ICT news magazine Thoi Bao Vi Tinh Saigon, English daily The Saigon Times Daily, and English weekly The Saigon Times Weekly, as well as advertising supplements Dia Oc and Chao.

In addition, under the group’s umbrella are two non-profit offshoots – the Saigon Times Club and the Saigon Times Foundation.

Launched on October 2, 1995, The Saigon Times Daily has been become the most read English business newspaper in Vietnam, especially in HCMC. Besides business news, the newspaper covers key social, political, tourism, entertainment and sport events happening at home and abroad.
