HCMC - Xuan Hoa 1 Primary School in Ke Sach District of the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang has opened seven newly built and three renovated classrooms for more than 300 children.

Funds for the program, totaling more than US$132,000, were raised by Refrigeration Electrical Engineering (REE) Corporation with the coordination of Saigon Children’s Charity CIO (saigonchildren).

The new classrooms are equipped ith new bookshelves, tables and chairs, boards, light systems and ceiling fans. Xuan Hoa 1 Primary School was also renovated with surroundings to make an appropriate learning environment for children, including hygiene facilities, storage area, a 200-square-meter playground, a school gate and a hedge.

For a long time, this school had long deteriorated, negatively affecting the education of many children in the area. The whole facility was a temporary building in poor condition and some of the classrooms could not be used due to heavy damage. The building’s structure was also no longer solid and stable, putting the students and the teachers in danger.

The school is in a remote area which makes it difficult for people to approach except the local residents. However, the situation has changed thanks to the support from REE Corporation.

Xuan Hoa 1 Primary School is one of around 200 schools built by saigonchildren for the disadvantaged children in Vietnam. The School Building Program is one of four main educational programs organized by saigonchildren to enhance local awareness of the importance of education and to improve the standard of education in remote areas across the country.

Two more schools in Duyen Hai District of Tra Vinh Province will celebrate their inauguration today, expecting to bring a quality learning environment to around 300 local children. These schools are also built by saigonchildren thanks to funds being raised from foreign sponsors.

Founded in 1992, saigonchildren is a non-profit organization based in HCMC that provides direct support to disadvantaged children in order to ensure wider access to education in Vietnam.
