HCMC – Vietnam Waste Solutions (VWS) today, November 8, presented six eco-friendly waste treatment trucks to HCMC, Long An and Kien Giang province as a gift. Each locality received two units.

The garbage trucks are reportedly the first special-use units of the type in Vietnam, which were designed based on orders of VWS. The vehicles, deploying modern technology from the U.S., boast more advantages than other vehicles currently in use in the country.

In particular, each of these specialized trucks has a load capacity of 10 tons and is equipped with a waste compressing compartment. In addition, it has a sewage leechate container to prevent the effluent from running onto the street.

The truck also has an automatic atomizer to deodorize unpleasant smell. Notably, it will give off fragrant smell whenever it stops at a traffic light, thus making other vehicle users feel comfortable.

It is powered by compressed natural gas that helps reduce the volume of toxic gas discharged into the environment, along with a system of cameras enabling the driver to observe the surrounding more easily.

Each of the special-use truck cost US$500,000, or some VND12 billion.

David Duong, VWS chairman cum general director, said that the firm imported a mere six trucks for pilot operations due to the high price. It hopes to import a larger volume of this eco-friendly vehicle in the years to come, especially when the demand for the vehicle is increasing and the price accordingly would be reduced.

Or else, it looks to cooperate with local partners to establish a plant in the country while dealing to obtain the U.S technology hand-over to manufacture the vehicles, so that the price would be more reasonable, he said.
