Over 9,000 join HCMC Marathon 2019

HCMC – The HCMC Marathon 2019 powered by Taiwan Excellence took place in District 7, HCMC last weekend, attracting more than 9,000 amateur and professional runners.

The marathon featured distances of 42, 21, 10 and 5 kilometers as well as one kilometer for kids.

In the men’s 42-kilometer distance, Che Change Chia from Taiwan came first at 2:35:00, followed by Nguyen Quoc Dung and Le Tan Huy of Vietnam at 2:41:00 and 2:53:00, respectively.

Dorflinger Simon from Germany won the men’s 21-kilometer race at 1:13:51 while Phan Ngoc Phan of Vietnam and Taiwan’s Chu Cheng Jui were the first and second runner-up, clocking 1:13:53 and 1:18:15, respectively.

In the 10-kilometer distance for men, Vietnam’s Le Huu Loc won the first prize at 35:35 and two other Vietnamese runners Luong Duc Phuoc and Tran Dang Minh Huy came second and third at 35:37 and 36:25, respectively.

All the money raised from the HCMC Marathon 2019 will be used to support people with disabilities and Agent Orange (dioxin) victims. The event was jointly held by the HCMC Athletics Federation and Pulse Active Company.

The HCMC Marathon was first held in 1992 to encourage people to be active and healthy. This year’s event saw a surge in the number of participants compared to previous years, including a large number of foreign runners from Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines, the U.S. and South Korea.
