Spring festival honors ethnic groups’ culture

HCMC - A festival themed “Spring colors from every corner of the country” will take place at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism in Son Tay Town of Hanoi on February 12 and 13 to honor cultural identities of 54 Vietnamese ethnic groups.

The event will feature a wide range of activities, with the participation of 200 artists from 25 ethnic groups of 17 provinces countrywide, including some ethnic minority groups in the border areas such as Si La, Cong, Lu, and La Hu (Lai Chau Province), Bo Y, La Chi, and Pu Peo (Ha Giang Province), O Du (Nghe An Province), Chut (Quang Binh Province), and Brau and Ro Nam (Kon Tum Province), according to the Vietnam News Agency.

Visitors will have a chance to learn about cultural identities, customs, preparations for Lunar New Year holiday and spring festivals of some ethnic minority groups through traditional music and dance performances as well as many other cultural activities.

Highlights of the event are Tet nhay (dancing festival) of Dao ethnic people from mountainous northern provinces and Aza Koonh festival of Ta Oi ethnic group from Thua Thien-Hue Province in central Vietnam.

Aza Koonh festival is Ta Oi ethnic minority people’s traditional custom to bid farewell to the old year and welcome the new year and hope for favorable weather and bumper crops.
