HCMC - The Saigon Union of Trading Cooperatives (Saigon Co.op) set a new record in the sales of goods during an eight-week period of serving consumers on the occasion of the Lunar New Year holiday, with total revenue reaching nearly VND8 trillion.

With weekly sales of some VND1 trillion, the total sales of Saigon Co.op during the eight weeks are considered the new record recorded in the Tet holiday so far. The retail chain operator reported the sales results during the holiday period to representatives of departments and agencies in HCMC at a meeting held on February 11.

Addressing the meeting, Nguyen Anh Duc, deputy general director of Saigon Co.op, stated that the retail chain operator had accomplished its five major commitments in offering goods to consumers during Tet. It provided sufficient products at stable prices and ensured food hygiene and safety. Also, it presented more than 10,000 gift sets to poor employees and other policy people in the community, helping them enjoy Tet.

The retail subsidiaries of Saigon Co.op resumed operations after Tet on the sixth day of the lunar year (February 10), including Co.opmart, the Co.op Xtra supermarket chain and Cheers convenience store chains. They also ran many promotional programs to attract consumers on the occasion of the new year, gifting customers lucky money or applying a price reduction to many essential products.

Speaking at the event, the municipal vice chairman Le Thanh Liem lauded Saigon Co.op for its efforts in serving the demand of local residents for Tet products.

Earlier, Saigon Co.op had collaborated with its suppliers to stock up on some 150,000 tons of goods to serve the Tet holiday period, with items under the city’s price stabilization program rising by between 5% and 30% in volume. Apart from that, it conducted regular inspections of goods quality, especially for food products, to ensure the provision of high-quality items, Duc remarked.
