HCMC - World-renowned disco bands Boney M and Joy will hold a live concert at the National Convention Center in Hanoi on March 8, starting at 8 p.m.

This will be Boney M’s third show in Vietnam after their impressive performances at My Dinh National Convention Center in October 2016 and at Vinpearl Nha Trang in August 2018, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

The band will sing their hits from the album Boney M 79 and some other songs by famous divas like Celine Dion and Whitney Houston.

“On March 8 I will be coming to Hanoi on Women’s Day. I look forward to seeing everyone. Happy New Year Hanoi,” said Boney M’s lead singer Liz Mitchell in a recent video.

Boney M will share the stage with the Austrian disco trio Joy, who will perform in Vietnam for the first time.

Boney M was founded by German record producer Frank Farian in 1975. The band has sold more than 80 million records worldwide. They are the only artists to appear twice in the top 11 best selling singles of all time in the UK, with “Rivers of Babylon” in seventh place and “Mary's Boy Child/Oh My Lord” at number 11. They are also among six artists to sell a million copies with two singles in the same year.

In Vietnam, Boney M’s joyful and ear-catching music is popularly played at parties. Their most favorite songs in the country include “Ma Baker”, “Gotta Go Home”, “Rasputin”, “Brown Girl in the Ring”, “Hooray! Hooray! It’s a Holi-Holiday”, “Jingle Bells”, “Mary’s Boy Child” and “Petit Papa Noel.”

Meanwhile, Joy was founded in 1984 in the city of Bad Aussee, Austria. The band is made up of members Freddy Jaklisch, Manfred Temmel and Andy Schweitzer. Joy’s most popular songs are “Touch by Touch”, “Hello”, “Valerie”, and “Japanese Girl”.
