Ba Ria-Vung Tau hosts int’l sailing race

HCMC - The international sailing tournament Vung Tau Marina Cup kicked off in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau on February 17, drawing 24 teams with 48 racers from Vietnam, the U.S., South Korea and the Czech Republic, Vietnamplus news website reports.

The tournament is jointly held by the Department of Culture and Sports of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province and Vung Tau Marina One Member Co Ltd.

The teams are divided into three pools to compete in a 3-kilometer race at Vung Tau Marina Bay in the qualifying round. Twelve teams with the best results will enter the semi-final to compete for six spots in the final. The winner will pocket VND100 million (US$4,300).

According to Le Van Hoc, director of Vung Tau Marina One Member Co Ltd, this is the fourth consecutive year the tournament has been held in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province.

Phan Thanh Sang, vice head of the Ba Ria-Vung Tau Department of Culture and Sports, said the event is an attractive playground for local and international sailing athletes, and helps attracting more tourists to the province. 

The Vung Tau Marina Cup also includes some side events such as kayak and photo contests.
