HCMC – Some 2,600 foreign journalists have registered to come to Hanoi next week to cover the second summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the local media reported.

The summit is slated to take place on February 27 and 28 in Hanoi City.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung was quoted by the local media as saying that a wealth of reporters, cameramen, broadcasters and producers from major news outlets and broadcasting stations of the U.S., South Korea and Japan have come to Vietnam.

In addition, British public service broadcaster BBC was cited by VTV news site as saying that the corporation would dispatch some 80 staff to Hanoi to cover the summit.

Trung noted that Vietnam has had only 20 days to prepare for the summit since Trump announced the capital city of Hanoi had been chosen to host the event.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc earlier asked the relevant ministries, departments and agencies to guarantee maximum safety and security for the event.

In related news, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh was cited by VietnamPlus news site as saying at a meeting on reviewing preparations for the second summit today, February 22, that the summit being held in Vietnam is an important political and diplomatic event for the country this year.

The event is expected to highlight Vietnam’s position as a reliable partner in the global playground. Hosting the summit is considered the country’s top priority, helping introduce Vietnam’s image and people to its international friends.

In addition, Minh asked the relevant agencies to speed up preparation tasks, in which security and safety must be prioritized.
