HCMC - A culture, sports and tourism festival for ethnic minority groups in Vietnamese and Lao border areas is being held in A Luoi District, Thua Thien-Hue Province, the Vietnam News Agency reports.

Under the theme “Unity, Friendship and Development”, the festival features some 1,000 artists, artisans, and amateur athletes from Vietnam’s central and Central Highlands provinces of Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Tri, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, and Kon Tum, and the Lao provinces of Attapeu, Sekong, Savannakhet and Salavan.

The festival aims to honor and promote the cultural values, heritage, and culture-sports-tourism potentials of Vietnamese and Lao ethnic minority groups. It also helps promote the solidarity, friendship and cultural exchanges between the border provinces of the two countries.

Main activities of the May 17-19 festival include fashion shows of traditional costumes, exhibitions on cultural and tourism products of participating localities, brocade weaving demonstrations, food fair, folk games, and music and dance performances.

The event is jointly organized by the government of Thua Thien-Hue Province and the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.
