HCMC - Local carmaker VinFast will provide 393 cars to transport delegates during the ASEAN summit and related meetings in 2020, when Vietnam serves as the chair of the regional grouping.

The materials and logistics subcommittee, under the National ASEAN 2020 Committee, and VinFast Production and Trading LLC on November 6 held a signing and handover ceremony for VinFast cars that will be used to serve the 2020 ASEAN Summit and related meetings.

Under the deal, VinFast, a subsidiary of Vietnamese conglomerate Vingroup, will hand over 393 VinFast Lux A2.0 and VinFast Lux SA2.0 cars to the subcommittee from now until September 2020.

The first batch of VinFast cars was handed over to the subcommittee after the ceremony.

All of the vehicles have met the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ requirements on security, safety and foreign affairs protocol standards. Aside from vehicle sponsorship, the carmaker will also be responsible for providing associated services to ensure the hassle-free operation of the vehicles.

Addressing the ceremony, Mai Tien Dung, chairman of the Government Office and deputy head of the National ASEAN 2020 Committee, said that VinFast’s sponsorship of made-in-Vietnam vehicles for the summit is a practical action in serving the country’s foreign affairs activities.

Nguyen Viet Quang, vice chairman and general director of Vingroup, said, “As a local automobile brand, it is an honor for Vingroup to contribute to organizing activities for the upcoming summit.”

As the ASEAN Chair in 2020, Vietnam will host some 150 meetings in the major cities of Hanoi, HCMC, Danang and Nha Trang, gathering leaders and high-ranking officials of the 10 ASEAN nations as well as other partner countries.
