HCMC - Major infrastructure projects, including Thu Thiem 2 Bridge, the new Mien Dong Coach Station, Provincial Road 10B and An Suong Tunnel, will be up and running this year, easing severe traffic congestion in the city, said a transport department official.

The construction of the Thu Thiem 2 bridge is ongoing in districts 1 and 2 and is projected to be completed by the end of the year, according to Tran Quang Lam, director of the HCMC Department of Transport.

With a total length of 1.4 kilometers, the six-lane bridge required over VND4.2 trillion in investment.

Under the initiative to relocate the existing Mien Dong Coach Station from Binh Thanh District to District 9, the new station has been completed but some roads connecting to it are still under construction. Also, the city’s municipal departments are working on the project’s land lease rates, so the investor can invite bidders to offer various convenient services at the station. The relocation will be finished within the year, remarked Lam.

Besides this, the second phase of An Suong Tunel will be completed in May to improve the traffic flow in the northwest of the city.

Meanwhile, the city will renovate Provincial Road 10B to smooth the way for vehicles travelling between HCMC and Long An Province.

Aside from the execution of old projects, the southern hub is set to start work on other major projects, such as Nguyen Huu Tho-Nguyen Van Linh Intersection and the expansion of the Hoang Hoa Tham and Truong Chinh streets.

In the Cat Lai Port area, the city is set for further expansion of the Nguyen Duy Trinh and Dong Van Cong streets, building the second phase of My Thuy Intersection and investing in An Phu Intersection in District 2.

In addition, the city will expedite procedures for the Ring Road 2 project and cooperate with the Ministry of Transport’s subordinate agencies to conduct procedures for sections of the Ring Road 3 project: Tan Van-Nhon Trach and Binh Chuan-National Highway 22-Ben Luc.
