HCMC – The Ministry of Planning and Investment has submitted a plan to establish the carrier Kite Air, run by Thien Minh Aviation JSC, to the prime minister for consideration and approval.

The new airline is expected to launch its maiden flight in the second quarter of this year, using six ATR 72 turbo-prop planes or similar aircraft, Tuoi Tre Online newspaper reported.

The number of airplanes to be used by the firm will increase to 25 by the sixth year of operations, including 15 Airbus A320s and A321s.

The total investment in the airline project is VND5.5 trillion, including VND1 trillion in equity and VND4.5 trillion in loans.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment has also proposed the prime minister assign the government of Quang Nam Province, where Kite Air is set to be headquartered, to direct Thien Minh Aviation JSC to complete the project while consulting with the relevant ministries and agencies and closely supervise the firm’s capital mobilization.

According to Thien Minh’s plan, Kite Air will operate domestic flights from Noi Bai, Chu Lai and Danang airports to Dien Bien, Buon Ma Thuot, Pleiku, Ca Mau, Con Dao and Rach Gia airports and from Tan Son Nhat International Airport to Con Dao Airport in its first year of operations. The new airline will operate 21 flights per week, departing from Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat international airports.

International flights are expected to be launched during the carrier’s second year of operations.

Thus, the Ministry of Planning and Investment has recently proposed the prime minister approve plans to establish three new airlines: Vietravel Air, Vinpearl Air and Kite Air.
