HCMC – The Ministry of Health has announced that a relative of a 23-year-old Vietnamese who returned from Wuhan City in China's Hubei in mid-January has tested positive for a new coronavirus, taking the nation's total number of confirmed cases to 10.

The patient, who is resident in the northern province of Vinh Phuc, was infected with the 2019-nCoV virus by one of the eight Vietnamese workers who came back to Vietnam on a Southern China Airlines flight on January 17 after a worker training course in Wuhan, the local media reported.

The Vinh Phuc worker started showing symptoms of coronavirus infection on January 25 and was later isolated.

This is the second case of human-to-human transmission of the Wuhan virus in Vietnam, where infections resulted from human-to-human contact within family. The previous case involved a visiting Chinese man and his son.

Three patients discharged from hospital

In total, Vinh Phuc Province has registered five confirmed coronavirus cases. Among the 10 cases nationwide, three have been released from hospital, with one in Thanh Hoa Province, one in HCMC, and one in Khanh Hoa Province.

The 28-year-old Li Zichao, the son of the Chinese visitor Li Ding, was released from Cho Ray Hospital today morning. But he asked for permission to stay at the hospital to take care of his father.

"I would like to thank the doctors and staff of the hospital who have given medical attention to me and my dad," Li Zichao said.

Today afternoon, the Khanh Hoa Hospital for Tropical Diseases released a coronavirus patient, the third to cover from the deadly disease in Vietnam so far.

This is the receptionist who had contact with Li Ding who came from Wuhan and his son Li Zichao who is working in Vietnam's Mekong Delta when the two Chinese came to a hotel in Khanh Hoa Province on January 16. The receptionist Le Thi Thu Ha developed a fever coupled with coughing two days later.
