HCMC - Education New Zealand on February 5 announced the return of the New Zealand Schools Scholarships worth VND4.8 billion in total that will be offered exclusively to Vietnamese students this year.

Following the program’s success in 2019, this year sees an increase in the number of scholarships from 36 to 40. The scholarships provide a 50% subsidy on the school tuition fees for the first year of study and target outstanding Vietnamese students with the required passion and competency to experience New Zealand’s world-class education.

“New Zealand and Vietnam celebrate 45 years of diplomatic relations in 2020. Relations between the two countries have been going from strength to strength and there is significant potential to grow the relationship even further, especially in the field of education,” said Wendy Matthews, the New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam.

Last year, New Zealand signed collaboration agreements with the Departments of Education and Training of HCMC and Hanoi to lay a great foundation to deliver key education initiatives. The New Zealand Schools Scholarships program highlights New Zealand’s continuing commitment to support Vietnamese students.

“The first cohort of Vietnamese school scholarship recipients have impressed New Zealand teachers with their tenacity, academic performance, and vision of how they want to prepare for the future that will better themselves, their families, and their communities. We are happy to continue providing significant scholarship opportunities to high-performing Vietnamese students,” John Laxon, Education New Zealand’s Regional Director, Asia said in a statement.

All 40 schools joining the New Zealand Schools Scholarships program are highly regarded institutions, providing Vietnamese students with a wide range of great choices across different regions in New Zealand, according to Laxon.

Applications for the scholarships will be open from February 10 to April 13, 2020. For more information about the scholarships, visit
