HCMC - The Asia America Gateway (AAG), an undersea cable system, has encountered a problem, affecting Vietnam’s international internet traffic, which is the first submarine cable incident in the country this year.

Many Vietnamese Internet users on April 3 complained that access to international services, such as YouTube, Instagram and Facebook, was choppy.

The AAG cable line suffered a rupture, VietnamPlus news site reported, citing some Internet service providers.

One of these providers sent an announcement to customers, saying that the cable line was broken and warning that connections to services provided by Facebook and YouTube would slow down.

Meanwhile, access to local websites remains normal, according to the announcement.

The Internet service providers are cooperating with their partners to fix the disruption to the undersea cable system.

The AAG stretches over 20,000 kilometers and connects Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Brunei, Hong Kong, the Philippines and America’s Guam, Hawaii and California.
