HCMC – The ancient town of Hoi An, a popular tourist destination in Quang Nam Province, will begin social distancing for 14 days, starting from midnight, to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

During the social distancing period, residents should refrain from going out except buying food, medicines and other necessities, and wear face masks while going out, wash their hands regularly using soap or hand sanitizer, avoid gatherings of more than two persons and keep a safe physical distance of at least two meters.

The city will suspend education and training services, cultural and sporting activities, festivals, fairs, competitions and public transport. Tourist attractions, beaches, historical relic sites, restaurants, coffee shops, bars, pubs, dance clubs, karaoke lounges and spas have also been closed.

Essential sectors such as production, construction, food, drugstores, petroleum, electricity and water, banks, post offices, communications, imports, exports and healthcare will remain operational.

However, they have to strictly comply with Covid-19 infection prevention and control measures by asking employees to wear face masks and keep a safe distance from others.

The Quang Nam Province government has also asked Dai Loc District and Dien Ban Town to suspend all sports events and close down fitness centers.

The province reported three local Covid-19 infections on July 28.
