HCMC – The Saigon Times Group, organizer of the “Saigon Times – Great Circle” program, on September 10 handed over thousands of essential anti-pandemic products to the border guard forces in the Central Highlands province of Daklak, to support them in the fight against Covid-19.

The items include 10,000 face masks, 400 hand sanitizers, 50 boxes of noodles and 200 boxes of Bibica cake.

The program was sponsored by Bibica Corporation, LIX Detergent JSC, Uniben JSC, Indochina Capital, Kim Phat Production Trade Technique Company, Thanh Cong Motor Vietnam JSC and An Cuong Wood-Working Manufacturing Company.

Daklak Province has a 73-kilometer-long borderline with Cambodia. Since early 2020, when the coronavirus broke out, soldiers have been working at 23 fixed and mobile checkpoints day and night to prevent the outbreak of the pandemic as well as illegal immigration, according to Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Minh Tuyen from the Border Guard of the province.

Senior Lieutenant Colonel Tuyen also conveyed gratitude to The Saigon Times Group and donors for their support in the combat against the health crisis.

Speaking at the donation handover ceremony, The Saigon Times Group’s Editor-in-Chief Tran Minh Hung said that the border guard forces play an important role in the fight against Covid-19, so since it was launched, the program has attracted the participation of many readers and enterprises.

“Donating these medical necessities is considered the best way to show our gratitude to border guard forces, who have not only brought security and peace to the Vietnamese people, but also contributed to preventing the spread of Covid-19,” said Hung.

“Investing in Vietnam’s future in a socially beneficial manner has been one of Indochina Capital’s main objectives over the past 20 years since our inception, and we are proud to support the border commands of Daklak, Gia Lai and Kon Tum provinces in the combat against Covid-19. We hope our contribution will help the fearless people who are on the frontline as they bravely protect our community,” says Peter Ryder, CEO, Indochina Capital.

“Despite having to push back the launch of our first Wink Hotel at 75 Nguyen Binh Khiem in HCMC’s District 1 because of the Covid-19 pandemic, we strongly believe that the hard work of border commands and military forces, the determination of Vietnamese medical experts and the timely measures taken by the Government have and will continue to put Vietnam in a better position for recovery relative to the majority of other nations around the globe,” Ryder added.

The “Saigon Times – Great Circle” program’s third phase titled “Together we win Covid-19” is aimed at continuing to support the society to win the war against Covid-19.  This follows the success of the program’s first phase that sought to help poverty-stricken people overcome the hardships caused by the pandemic earlier this year and the second phase titled “Together with Vietnam’s Tourism.”

The third phase kicked off in mid-August and is focusing on sharing the difficulties of those who are at the frontline in the fight against the novel coronavirus along with the support of the business community and other donors.

For this purpose, the Saigon Times Group is calling on its readers—businesses and individuals alike—to participate in the program.
