HCMC – The municipal government of Hanoi has approved the reopening of karaoke parlors, bars and discos starting today, September 16, as the capital city has not reported any new Covid-19 case via community transmission for almost a month, according to a city official.

Speaking at a meeting on Covid-19 infection prevention and control, Ngo Van Quy, vice chairman of the city government, announced that the leisure industry can resume normal operations but has to comply with Covid-19 preventive measures.

Hanoi has gone 28 days, from August 19 to date, without recording any new locally-transmitted patient. During the second coronavirus wave which hit the country from July 25, the capital city reported 39 Covid-19 patients and no deaths. Of the infections, 11 were community-transmitted cases and 28 others were imported cases who were quarantined on arrival.

Accordingly, the city decided to ease anti-pandemic measures, aimed at aiding economic growth and fighting against the novel coronavirus concurrently.

The vice chairman also approved a proposal of Hoan Kiem District to resume operations of a pedestrian space near the Hoan Kiem Lake area and neighboring locations from September 18.

However, the risk of community transmission still remains. He requested the relevant State agencies to continue the implementation of safety measures against Covid-19 such as wearing masks in public places, washing hands regularly and limiting large gatherings.
