HCMC – The Australian Embassy in Vietnam on September 17 announced five innovative and practical projects co-led by teams from Australia and Vietnam that will receive over AUD2 million in funding from the Australian Government’s Aus4Innovation Partnership Grants program.

This is the second and final funding round of the program, following the successful first round in 2019, with three projects receiving a total of more than AUD1.63 million.

With funding of over AUD2 million, these five projects, which were selected from 82 applications, will be able to scale up their innovative ideas and create sustainable economic and social impact.

They will utilize technologies and experiences from Australia and the local know-how of Vietnam to build on existing proven results across a range of priority technology and development sectors.

Specifically, the project of environment monitoring system for sustainable mangrove aquaculture in Ca Mau Province will receive AUD500,623, while AUD400,000 will be given to the sensor network for flood monitoring in HCMC project and AUD386,500 to the acceleration program focusing on the agriculture sector and providing start-ups with access to innovation and finance.

Aus4Innovation will also grant AUD298,985 and AUD 478,824 to the cooling chain for vegetables from Son La Province to urban markets and to the technology to create high value products from catfish by-products projects, respectively.

Congratulating the winners, Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Robyn Mudie said, “In this time of uncertainty, I greatly appreciate the joint efforts of Australian and Vietnamese organizations, including universities, research agencies, and businesses to continue to find ways to innovate, collaborate, implement and diffuse your excellent ideas.”

“I am confident that these initiatives will deliver a lasting socioeconomic impact. They will also seed even deeper relationships that will enable Australia and Vietnam to access the innovative opportunities of the future together,” she added.

Aus4Innovation Partnership Grants is an important part of the four-year flagship Aus4Innovation program to help strengthen the Vietnamese innovation system and prepare for Vietnam’s economic and digital future.

It is co-funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and InnovationXchange, managed by the Australian Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization, and in strategic collaboration with the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam.
