HCMC - Over the past 27 years, the Saigon Times Club, a non-profit arm of The Saigon Times Group, has served as a bridge between its member enterprises, offering them opportunities to promote partnerships, seek potential customers and boost business cooperation.

On September 25, the club held an annual meeting to celebrate its 27th anniversary at the Rex Hotel Saigon. Consuls General and senior leaders from the Consulates General of France, Indonesia, Singapore, India, New Zealand and Thailand and the Indian Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam, Advantage Austria, the Thai Business Association in Vietnam, the Hong Kong Business Association in Vietnam and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam attended the event to congratulate the Saigon Times Club on its 27-year journey.

The Saigon Times Club’s affiliated clubs including the 2030 Business Club, the Saigon Times Expert Club, the Market Club, the Saigon Times Real Estate Club and the Saigon Times Startup and Innovation Club gathered many members who are businesspeople, entrepreneurs and experts active in a wide range of fields.

Addressing the ceremony, Pham Huu Chuong, deputy editor-in-chief of The Saigon Times Group, said after three decades of developing along with the country's renovation process, the Saigon Times Group has established itself among readers across two distinct groups of publications—one in Vietnamese to focus on business and market news and one in English to cater to foreign readers.

Together with the publications of the Saigon Times Group, the Saigon Times Club has striven to contribute to the development of Vietnamese businesspeople.

The strong development of the Vietnamese economy, together with the international integration process, has helped trade activities flourish between foreign and Vietnamese businesses, including member businesses of the Saigon Times Club.

“We hope that the Saigon Times Club’s 2020 annual meeting would provide opportunities for Vietnamese and foreign businesses to network, share their business experience and seek partnerships,” he said.

Affiliated clubs of the Saigon Times Club also took the opportunity to introduce their management boards of the new tenure.

The program continued with a talk show themed “Connect to develop together”, where experts shared how businesses can participate in the global supply chain.

Tran Kim Chung, chairman of C.T Group, said that in the context of the fourth industrial revolution and changes caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, businesses need to re-define their competitive strengths in both the short and long term.

“Small businesses should apply technologies to their operations and improve connectivity to easily adapt to a common ecosystem. Connectivity means the interaction not only between individuals and enterprises but also ecosystems and platforms,” he said.

Le Duc Nghia, board chairman of An Cuong Wood Working JSC, said the door to the global supply chain is opening wider for small businesses, as large enterprises need more satellite businesses. An Cuong has participated in the global supply chain of world-renowned corporations such as Home Décor and Walmart.

“Professionalism plays a key role in helping small businesses participate in the global supply chain. They should meet international standards in terms of the manufacturing process, operation, time commitment and product quality,” he said.

Mohan Ramesh Anand, chairman of the Indian Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam, said product quality must be the top priority as international businesses have very strict requirements. Small enterprises should not manufacture a wide variety of products or expand to many fields but focus on a certain product or stage so they can better control the quality.

Under the framework of the event, the Saigon Times Group and the Indian Business Chamber in Vietnam signed a memorandum of understanding on sharing information about business opportunities between India and Vietnam.

The group expected that in the future, there would be more similar agreements to be signed with the business associations of other countries whose businesses are operating in Vietnam.
