HCMC – The Cat Linh-Ha Dong urban railway in Hanoi City is set to start a trial operation within 20 days from December 12 to assess the quality and safety of the entire system.

Vu Hong Phuong, acting general director of the Railway Project Management Unit under the Ministry of Transport, said on December 7 that the trains of the railway would operate on a trial basis from 5.00 a.m. to 11.00 p.m.

Six trains will run at off-peak hours, while nine trains will run at peak hours from the starting point to the end of the railway and vice versa, VnExpress news site reported.

The total 13 trains with four carriages each will be operated on a trial basis, starting at Yen Nghia Station of Ha Dong District and ending at Cat Linh Station in downtown Dong Da District.

The 13-kilometer Cat Linh-Ha Dong urban railway has 12 stations and one depot. It travels at a maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour, with an average speed of 35 kilometers per hour.

The trains will run every six to seven minutes in normal times and two to three minutes during the rush hour. Each train will stop at each station for some 30 seconds to pick up and drop off passengers.

Before the trial operation of the entire system, the contractors of the project will operate the trains for eight days to check some components and practice handling some problems.

Based on the results of the planned trial run, in the first quarter of 2021, the French consulting firm will grant a safety certificate for the railway system. Besides, the Ministry of Transport, the investor of the project, will appraise the railway and hand it over to the municipal government for management and operation.
