HCMC – The HCMC police in coordination with their counterparts in Dong Nai Province and the Ministry of Public Security’s officers early this morning, March 25, cordoned off and inspected a petrol station located on Nguyen Kiem Street, Ward 3, Go Vap District, HCMC, for its alleged involvement in a massive fake fuel ring in Dong Nai.

Following this, the No.1 Petrol Station reportedly owned by the Thanh Binh Oil and Gas Company was forced to suspend operations, the local media reported.

The police then raided all of the rooms at the station, collecting a number of documents.

By 9 a.m. on the day, the forces collected petrol samples from the station for inspection.

This petrol station has been reportedly operational for over 25 years.

Over a month ago, the police of Dong Nai Province had busted the 2.7-million-liter fake fuel ring. The police on March 9 arrested Le Thanh Tu, aged 55, and his wife, Tran Thi Thanh Van, aged 53, who are the owners of Van Truc Trading and Services Co., Ltd, to probe into their alleged fuel smuggling after they raided 10 Van Truc petrol stations.

Findings from the police revealed that the ring of smuggling, producing and trading fake fuel was co-led by Phan Thanh Huu, residing in HCMC, and Nguyen Huu Tu, residing in the Mekong Delta province of Vinh Long, both aged 64.

The police are expanding the investigation into the case.
