HCMC – The Trade Remedies Authority of Vietnam under the Ministry of Industry and Trade has levied a temporary antidumping duty of 10.2% on H-shaped steel from Malaysia, a decision taken after an eight-month-long probe from August last year following complaints and petitions from many local manufacturers.

Data from the General Department of Vietnam Customs and preliminary investigation results indicated that the volume of steel imports from Malaysia was not considerable before the probe.

However, the import surged during the investigation period, negatively affecting the local H-shaped steel production firms’ sales and market share and customers, the local media reported.

Before making a final decision in the case, the Trade Remedies Authority of Vietnam will continue to work with relevant units to determine which products should be eliminated and exempted.

Besides, the authority will assess the general impact of the dumping on the relevant sides, including customers. The probe is set to be completed in the second quarter of 2021.
