HCMC – The authorities of Quang Ngai Province decided to implement social distancing measures starting from 12 p.m. today, May 7, to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the central province.

The decision was made after the Ministry of Health confirmed a resident of An Vinh Hamlet, Tinh Ky Commune, Quang Ngai City in the province was infected with Covid-19. He is the first locally-transmitted case in the province during the latest coronavirus resurgence, reported VnExpress.

During the social distancing period, residents must avoid gatherings of more than 20 people at meetings, ceremonies, religious events, sports activities and gatherings of over 10 outside office buildings and schools, and to also keep a safe physical distance of at least two meters from each other in public places.

Nonessential services such as gyms and yoga centers, cinemas, bars, pubs, Internet and game shops, discotheques, karaoke and massage parlors will have to stay shut. Celebration parties with less than 20 participants, restaurants with no more than 20 guests and take-away services were permitted.

Besides this, Ly Son Island off this central province will turn away tourists during the period.

Earlier, the Covid-19 patient had visited the Danang-based New Phuong Dong bar, where three Covid-19 cases were previously reported, on the night of April 28. He returned to Quang Ngai the following day and visited a number of locations in Quang Ngai City, Son Tinh and Binh Son districts. He was sent into quarantine on May 4.

On May 6, the province locked down 30 local households with 211 members in An Vinh Hamlet, where he is residing. The local health authority also detected 31 people who came into close contact with him and nearly 120 others who were linked to him. His girlfriend tested negative for the coronavirus.
