HCMC - The United States has sent two million doses of the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine to Vietnam as part of its emergency public health assistance of 80 million doses to offer global support in the fight against Covid-19.

The shipment of the doses is set to arrive in Vietnam this weekend, the local media reported.

These doses were delivered to Vietnam through the World Health Organization’s COVAX program, with an effort to end the pandemic globally.

Last week, the United States sent one million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine to Malaysia, and is planning to ship four million doses to Indonesia.

Like the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, the Moderna Covid‑19 vaccine, developed by Moderna, the United States National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, delivers messenger RNA, or mRNA.

The vaccine is 90% effective at preventing infections. Besides, the Moderna vaccine can be stored in normal freezers and does not require a super-cold storage warehouse, making it easier to transport.

As of July 5, over 3.9 million people in Vietnam had received the Covid-19 vaccine, with 226,000 of them fully vaccinated with two doses.
