HCMC – The 600,000 AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine doses of the second batch of one million doses donated by Japan arrived at the HCMC-based Tan Son Nhat International Airport this morning, July 9.

The shipment of Covid-19 vaccine doses weighing over 2,604 kilograms was stored inside 10 RKN containers and transported from Japan to Vietnam on an All Nippon Airways flight which landed in HCMC.

From 7:30 to 9:00 this morning, Tan Son Nhat Cargo Services JSC, which is a unit of Vietnam Airlines and took delivery of the Covid-19 vaccine doses, conducted customs clearance procedures for the shipment and sent it to a storage facility.

Accordingly, as of this morning, Vietnam had been given nearly two million vaccine doses by Japan.

Earlier, the Japanese Government on June 16 donated nearly one million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to Vietnam. On July 2, some 400,000 Covid-19 vaccine doses of the second batch of one million doses donated by Japan arrived at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport.

Overall, Vietnam has received over 5.5 million vaccine doses to date, including nearly 2.5 million doses provided by the Covax Facility, over 400,000 doses ordered by the Vietnam Vaccine JSC, around 2.5 million doses donated by other countries, and more than 97,000 doses ordered from vaccine manufacturer Pfizer/BioNTech, according to the Ministry of Health.

An additional two million Moderna vaccine doses are expected to arrive in Vietnam this weekend.

Nguyen Thanh Long, Minister of Health, said that Vietnam has made efforts to access various Covid-19 vaccine supplies, with over 200 rounds of vaccine-related negotiations made. Up to now, around 105 million vaccine doses from different suppliers were pledged to be distributed to Vietnam.
