HCMC - The Ministry of Health has proposed raising the production of medical oxygen as Covid-19 cases in critical condition are rising.

The ministry on July 20 wrote to oxygen makers and suppliers requesting them to operate at full capacity while urging hospitals and healthcare centers to secure supplies to prevent shortages of oxygen for Covid-19 treatment.

Oxygen production facilities which have been providing oxygen to hospitals and healthcare centers in HCMC, other southern provinces and virus-hit localities, were told to work closely with each other and map out a detailed plan for oxygen transport and storage.

These producers must comply with safety protocols, ensure labor safety and prevent fires and explosions during the processes of oxygen production and transport.

The ministry also asked hospitals nationwide, mainly those in HCMC and Covid-19-hit provinces and cities, to promptly review their conditions and capacity for receiving and using oxygen in Covid-19 treatment.

The provincial and municipal departments of health were told to direct healthcare centers to enhance their medical checkup and treatment systems to serve Covid-19 patients and make oxygen available for treatment.

In addition, the provinces and cities’ health sector should proactively work with oxygen producers to ensure a sufficient supply of the life-saving gas, according to the ministry.

Apart from this, oxygen makers were asked to install oxygen cylinder filling systems to serve healthcare facilities which have no liquid medical oxygen and oxygen pipelines, the local media reported.
