VFF suspends Quang Ngai football club for drop-out

By Vu Duc - The Saigon Times Daily

HCMC - The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has decided to suspend the Quang Ngai football club for dropping out of a match against Saigon United on July 25 in round 22 of the First Division football tournament.

VFF’s disciplinary board suspended Quang Ngai from the First Division and slapped a fine of VND70 million Vị trí đặt quảng cáo(US$3,900). The central province-based team have to play in the Second Division next season.

The incident happened when referee Kieu Viet Hung awarded a penalty to Saigon United following an illegal tackle by Quang Ngai defender Vu Quang Vinh in the 80th minute.

The Quang Ngai players suddenly walked out in the 80th minute to show their reactive attitude to the referee after receiving a penalty kick at HCMC’s Thong Nhat Stadium when hosts Saigon United were leading 2-1.

The club’s deputy chief Ho Dang Bong and head coach Trinh Cong Minh have been banned from all football activities for 18 months and fined VND10 million (US$550) each. The VFF also suspended defender Vu Quang Vinh for nine months and fined him VND10 million for his poor behavior.

Following Quang Ngai’s suspension, the results of all its matches have been abrogated. Third-place Binh Dinh, which secured the full six points against Quang Ngai, could even miss out on the chance to enter the play-offs.

The ranking table will also be changed as second-place Hoa Phat Hanoi could lose four points while Saigon United could lose six points and bottom-place Quang Nam could lose two points.

The VFF discipline commission also fined V-League football club Haiphong VND55 million (US$3,000) and handed them a one-match ban relating to the display of offensive behavior of their supporters.

Haiphong football fans grew violent at a home game against HCMC Club July 26 in their third case of hooliganism this year. Haiphong will have to play their next game with Dong Tam Long An Tiles on August 9 at Lach Tray Stadium behind closed doors.
