Nguyen Tran Hoang Anh, a Saigon-based humanitarian, is the only Southeast Asian representative on the shortlist for the Olga Alexeeva memorial prize by Alliance magazine in the U.K.

The prize which is worth £5,000 is awarded to an individual who has demonstrated remarkable leadership, creativity which results in developing philanthropy for progressive social change in an emerging market. The winner will be invited to deliver a keynote speech at the Emerging Markets Philanthropy Forum ‘Emerging Societies – Emerging Philanthropies’ which will take place in St Petersburg, Russia from July 1-2. In addition, all short-listed candidates will be invited to the forum as special guests.

Anh is board chair of LIN Center and communications manager of Brand Maker which consults and designs Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) for both local and international companies. In December 2011, Anh created Facebook page Mua sam vi Cong dong (Shop for a Cause) to sell old/second clothes to raise funds for NGOs. Anh and her Brand Maker staff instructed the skill integration association under the HCMC Children Sponsoring Association to make a short film and a PowerPoint presentation which helped them win a US$4,000 sponsorship. In 2012, she and her team helped a local charity association Ceporer Hoc Mon win US$2,000 for a website design package.

Online voting will close on March 31 and the final results will be announced on April 15.

The other nominees are from India, Russia, Kenya, Belarus and Columbia.

Olga Alexeeva was Director of CAF Russia from 1993 to 2005 and Head of CAF Global Trustees from 2006 to 2010. In July 2010 Olga left CAF to set up The Philanthropy Bridge Foundation, whose goal was to build meaningful connections, partnerships and, most importantly, trust between philanthropists looking to give something back and individuals and institutions looking to help developing and emerging markets around the world. Sadly, she died suddenly aged just 42 on July 20, 2011. This prize is in honor of her memory and beliefs.
