There seems to be a good reason when the Ministry of Finance last week put forth a draft law on environmental protection with an intention to impose a tax as high as VND8,000 per liter of petrol consumed, compared to the current ceiling of VND4,000 per liter. The excuse may be perceived that the environment has been worsening alongside economic growth, so there must be higher revenue to finance curative measures for the sake of sustainable development.
