HCMC – Vietnamese and French authorities have teamed up to repatriate 240 Vietnamese nationals from France on Vietnam Airlines flights on May 5 and 6.
The repatriation flights were organized by the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnamese Embassy in France, national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines and the relevant agencies of the two countries.
All the passengers, including minor students, elderly people, people with underlying health conditions and Vietnamese overseas students facing housing difficulties due to pandemic-related dormitory closures, underwent health checks and were sent to quarantine centers on arriving at Van Don International Airport in the northern province of Quang Ninh.
Amid the lockdown in France due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Vietnamese Embassy and the Vietnamese community in this European nation jointly developed and rolled out information technology solutions to help Vietnamese citizens return home.
Earlier, on May 5, a Vietnam Airlines flight to France carried medical supplies as a gift from the Vietnamese Government and people for their French counterparts.
Further, the competent agencies will continue to organize commercial flights to repatriate Vietnamese living abroad, following the prime minister’s directions and based on the development of Covid-19 and the quarantine capacity at home.
As for flights to repatriate Vietnamese nationals from San Francisco in the United States, the Foreign Affairs Ministry, the Vietnamese Embassy and other representative agencies in America have been working with the relevant agencies in both countries to assist Vietnam Airlines with the completion of procedures to operate the flights as soon as possible.
Vietnam Airlines has completed essential procedures at the request of U.S. authorities for a flight scheduled for May 6.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry asked Vietnamese nationals abroad to keep complying with the host country’s regulations in the fight against Covid-19 as well as Vietnamese representative bodies’ guidelines.
