96% of enterprises at HCMC’s IPs resume operations

HCMC – Some 1,355 of 1,412 enterprises, or some 96%, in 17 industrial and export processing zones in HCMC have resumed their operations a month after the city eased social distancing measures, according to the HCMC Export Processing and Industrial Zones Authority (HEPZA).

More than 230,500 laborers, or 80%, have returned to work. The rate reached 95%-100% at some factories, news site Vietnamplus reported.

Hua Quoc Trung, head of HEPZA, said enterprises were recruiting more laborers to ensure the operation of production lines and the supply of goods, while completing orders for the rest of the year.

He added that 94.4% of laborers at industrial and export processing zones in the city had been fully vaccinated or recovered from Covid-19. This means they can ensure continued production at enterprises in the new normal.

Enterprises have stopped adopting the stay-at-work or one-route-two-destination modes, while continuing to apply anti-pandemic measures in the new normal, adjusting these measures if needed and aiding the step-by-step recovery and development of the city’s economy.

Moreover, many firms have taken the initiative to formulate production plans in line with the developments of the pandemic.

Earlier, the Saigon Hi-tech Park had put into operation a centralized quarantine center for laborers of enterprises at the hi-tech park who were asymptomatic or had mild Covid-19 symptoms. Coronavirus-infected laborers will not pay any fees when they stay there, and their enterprises will pay VND120,000 per day for each laborer.

The quarantine center helps reduce production chain disruptions and provide better treatment for Covid-19 patients.

Besides the quarantine center at the Saigon Hi-tech Park, two others have been set up at the Linh Trung 2 Export Processing Zone in Thu Duc City and the Dong Nam Industrial Park in Cu Chi District.
