HCMC – Among the 100 new Covid-19 cases that the Ministry of Health reported this afternoon, May 25, 87 cases were detected in Bac Giang Province, the largest pandemic hotspot in the country.
Meanwhile, Hanoi had an additional eight cases; Danang, two; and Thai Binh, HCMC and Dien Bien, one each.
The new cases sent Bac Giang’s Covid-19 tally to 1,156 cases. Meanwhile, Hanoi has had 316 cases, including 89 cased linked to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases and 48 others related to K Hospital.
The Bac Giang government has issued a social distancing order for Yen The District with over 100,000 residents in accordance with the Prime Minister’s Directive 15, starting 0 a.m. today. In addition, four communes of the district—Xuan Luong, Canh Nau, Dong Tien and Dong Vuong—have been put under lockdown.
On the same day, 10 wards of Hai Duong City in the province of the same name started practicing social distancing in line with Directive 16, which is stricter than Directive 15. The remaining 15 wards and communes will undergo social distancing in line with Directive 15.
Con, Bac Kinh, Chi Lang and Phu Yen markets must suspend their operation, while other markets in the city are allowed to sell food and essential commodities only.
In related news, a man in HCMC’s Go Vap District has tested positive for Covid-19 for the first two times but negative in the next two tests.
He has developed typical symptoms of Covid-19, such as fever, shortness of breath, loss of appetite and even pneumonia.
Five days after detecting the case, the HCMC agencies have yet to affirm if he is infected with Covid-19.
According to director of the HCMC Department of Health Nguyen Tan Binh, the man might contract the virus for a long time and was at the final stage of the disease development.
The municipal healthcare sector has put his neighborhood and the places that he had visited under lockdown as well as traced those in close contact with him. The city has also conduct Covid-19 tests on 32 people in close contact with him and 232 people living near his house and all of the results came back negative, Binh added.
