DANANG – Once the Covid-19 pandemic was brought under control, coupled with off-season rains and high fuel costs and consumer prices, the socio-economic development of Hue City in Thua Thien Hue Province gained positive results during the first half of the year.

This was announced by the city’s leader during the 4th session of the 13th Hue City People’s Council for the 2021-2026 tenure, which was held on July 23.

Phan Thien Dinh, Hue City Party Committee Secretary and People’s Council Chairman, announced that from the outset of the material and petrol price surge, the city sought to combat the pandemic and implement the socio-economic development plan. Despite facing such arduous difficulties, the city has gained tangible achievements, paving the way to fulfill the 2022 development goals.

In the first half of 2022, Hue City’s earnings in tourism increased by 16.7% to VND700 billion compared to the same period last year. While the total investment capital hit VND2,680 billion, extending 19% year-on-year, total retail sales and service revenue grew VND23,314 billion, or 17% over the same period last year. State budget revenue totaled VND516,600 billion.

Dinh said Hue City’s socio-economic situation has faced several challenges. As such, although the city’s planning projects have been accomplished intensively, the pace has yet to meet expectations. Besides, the mobilization of resources for investment has currently been asynchronous.

Therefore, Hue City has aimed to accelerate the implementation of its planning and urban embellishment projects from now onward, particularly in the next six months of 2022.

On the afternoon of July 23, the People’s Council of Hue City also passed resolutions on upgrading roads and park projects, improving the drainage system, electricity and lighting, such as embellishing the sidewalk of Le Duan street (from the Quang Duc gate to the Gia Vien bridge), the area located in front of the Linh Mu pagoda (phase 1), the park of the Phan Boi Chau statue and the Diem Phung Thi Museum, as well as installing a fountain system at the Ly Tu Trong park.
