HCMC – The Hanoi City Health Department on September 26 urged medical centers and hospitals to equip themselves with sufficient hospital beds, human resources and equipment supplies amid the soaring adenovirus cases.
The Health Ministry asked units in the sector in Hanoi to strengthen the prevention and treatment of adenovirus cases. If adenovirus cases are detected at medical centers, drastic handling must be carried out, the ministry said.
To ensure patient safety, cases with respiratory failure, sepsis and multiple organ failure will require active consultation.
The Dong Da General Hospital and the Saint Paul General Hospital were tasked with instructing units in the sector on diagnosing, preventing and treating patients with the adenovirus.
The Hanoi Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will join hands with local medical facilities to step up supervision over the development of the adenovirus and report it to the Health Department.
From August to September 22, adenovirus cases at the National Children’s Hospital surged. By late September, there were 1,406 cases, seven of which were reported dead and 811 were inpatients, representing 58% of the total.
Given the situation, the Department of Preventive Medicine under the Ministry of Health on September 21 wrote to the Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, the Pasteur Institute, and the provincial health departments urging them to take anti-adenovirus measures.
