HCMC – Some 1.9 million international tourists visited Vietnam between January and September, surging by 16.4-fold year-on-year, according to data of the General Statistics Office.

Over 1.6 million foreign visitors traveled to the country by air, accounting for 88.6% of the total and soaring by 22 times year-on-year. Besides, 212,500 international tourists arrived in Vietnam by road.

According to Chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Association Vu The Binh, though the number of nearly 1.9 million international tourist arrivals in Vietnam reached a mere 20% of the full-year target and was much lower than that of the pre-Covid levels, the country’s tourism is rebounding quickly. As a result, the nation will see a tourism boom in the rest of the year.

Lodging and catering services fetched VND430.9 trillion during the nine-month period, up 54.7% year-on-year, supported by the high travel demand during the summer vacation.

Travel revenue during the January-September period rose by 3.9 times year-on-year to VND18.2 trillion due to the strong rally of the tourism sector, mainly the domestic segment. However, the figure fell by 44% against the same period in 2019.

Tourism agencies are proactively launching a series of tourism promotion programs to popularize Vietnamese tourism products and services among foreign visitors, the local media reported.
