HCMC – The Ministry of Public Security is considering issuing chip-based citizen identity cards for children under six.
The plan would proceed if the draft Law on Citizenship Identity is approved. The ministry recommended that children under six should receive a chip-based citizen ID card upon birth registration.
Children under six would be exempt from biometrics collection. However, getting an ID card for children under six is not compulsory.
Parents or guardians of children under six should come to local ID issuing offices.
Under the draft law, the information contained in the citizen ID card includes health insurance, social insurance, driving license, academic diplomas and degrees, birth and marriage.
