HCMC – As a result of the impact of Storm Talim, three airports in northern Vietnam have been closed following the guidance of the Northern Airports Authority.

Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi City will stop receiving aircraft departing and arriving between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. on July 18. Van Don Airport in Quang Ninh Province and Cat Bi Airport in Hai Phong City are temporarily shut down from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today. This is due to the proximity of Quang Ninh and Haiphong to the storm’s path, as well as the thunderstorms and reduced visibility in Hanoi caused by the storm.

Air carriers and relevant agencies have been instructed to stay on duty around the clock and make necessary adjustments to flight schedules. The authorities of Van Don and Cat Bi airports should implement safety measures for aircraft landing at the airports.

In response to these directives, Vietnam Airlines has cancelled domestic arrivals and departures at Noi Bai Airport from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on July 18. Flights No. VN1182 and VN1183 between HCMC and Haiphong have been cancelled at Cat Bi Airport. Earlier, the airline had announced the cancellation or schedule adjustments of many flights to and from Haiphong due to the storm’s impact.

For international flights, departures from Hanoi between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. on July 18 will be delayed until after 8 p.m. on the same day.

Other airlines have also revised their flight schedules as requested by the competent authorities. Due to the complexity of the storm, air carriers recommend that passengers who are scheduled to arrive at or depart from affected airports stay updated with weather forecasts and airline information.

According to the National Centre for Hydro – Meteorological Forecasting, as of 7 a.m. this morning, Storm Talim is located 100 kilometers from Mong Cai, Quang Ninh Province, with a maximum wind speed of 102 kilometers per hour at level 10.

The storm is heading west-northwest and is expected to approach the China-Vietnam border from 11 a.m. this morning at wind level 9. By 4 p.m. today, the eye of Storm Talim will be located northeast of Vietnam with a reduced wind level of 7. It will weaken into a tropical depression and continue moving into the upland region of the north before dissipating on the early morning of July 19.
