HCMC – Thanks to its robust economic recovery, Dong Thap Province’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP) expanded by 8.62% to VND100 trillion, with GRDP per capita reaching VND62.1 million.
This information was provided on Dong Thap’s portal during Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s recent visit to the province.
Situated in the Mekong Delta, Dong Thap enjoys numerous advantages in agricultural production. As a result, its export revenue reached nearly US$1.5 billion, a 34% increase from 2021.
The province has embraced green, circular, and digital agricultural practices, leading to the creation of additional value for its products. Dong Thap boasts 357 One Commune One Product (OCOP) items, ranking third among localities with the most significant OCOP offerings nationwide.
In the delta, Dong Thap ranks among the top three localities in terms of rice productivity, yielding over three million tons annually. Its pangasius catfish output exceeds 500,000 tons, solidifying its position as the leading pangasius producer.
During the first half of the year, the province’s industrial production generated VND35 trillion in revenue, up nearly 7%. Meanwhile, agro-forestry-fishery production amounted to VND21.67 trillion, up 4% compared to the same period last year.
The province’s economic development is also reflected in its Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) ranking. Dong Thap maintains its place among the top five locales across the country for the 15th consecutive year.
Dong Thap has proposed that the Government establish a major agro-fishery product center, a specialized economic zone, and develop Thuong Phuoc international border gate into a land and waterway international border gate to further propel the province’s economic growth.
