HCMC – The National Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control has proposed allocating over VND5 trillion to support 30 provinces affected by disasters.
The proposal, aimed at addressing the aftermath of landslides and facilitating the relocation of residents from disaster-prone areas, was discussed in a meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai on October 23.
Reports from local governments have highlighted the extensive damage caused by natural disasters. As part of the allocation plan, 13 provinces in the northern and Central Highlands regions are set to receive more than VND1.1 trillion for essential infrastructure repairs, reported the Government news site baochinhphu.vn.
VND3.4 trillion is proposed for urgent landslide management in 25 provinces, while VND495 billion is for the resettlement of residents from high-risk areas in seven provinces.
During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Khai commended provinces such as Bac Giang, Thanh Hoa, and Binh Dinh for their effective use of local budgets in mitigating the consequences of disasters.
For the 30 provinces seeking support from the Central Budget Reserve, they are required to prepare detailed reports on the aid. The deadline for submission of their reports is October 27.
The national steering committee, along with relevant ministries and localities, is working to finalize this proposal, ensuring the prudent utilization of the allocated funds.
Since the beginning of this year, Vietnam has been severely affected by natural events, resulting in 149 deaths, 118 injuries, and the destruction of 888 homes. The cumulative damage is estimated to exceed VND6.8 trillion.
