HCMC – The Ministry of Health confirmed 4,589 new Covid-19 cases, including six imported cases and 4,583 domestic infections today, September 28, while HCMC reported 3,417 cases after conducting quick tests on residents in high-risk and extremely-high-risk areas. However, Covid cases found positive via quick tests are not confirmed by the Ministry of Health until such cases undergo PCR tests.
Among the new domestic infections, Binh Duong had 2,575 cases, followed by Dong Nai with 787 cases. Notably, the ministry confirmed only 377 cases in HCMC.
In addition, 232 and 159 cases were detected in An Giang and Long An, respectively. Other localities saw less than 100 cases each.
The latest Covid cases have raised the country’s tally to 770,640, with 766,110 domestic infections reported in the current wave.
Today, the number of Covid-19 patients discharged from hospitals hit a new record, at 21,487, raising the country’s total Covid-19 recoveries to 559,945.
Meanwhile, 178 Covid-19 deaths were confirmed today, sending the country’s total Covid-19 death toll to 18,936. Of the new fatalities, 131 were in HCMC, 15 in Binh Duong, six in Dong Nai, five each in Long An, Tien Giang and An Giang, four in Kien Giang, two in Danang and one each in Quang Ngai, Khanh Hoa, Tay Ninh, Can Tho and Soc Trang.
This afternoon, the HCMC Department of Health asked districts in HCMC to suspend the administration of the Pfizer vaccine in the FK0112 batch as a person reportedly died after being vaccinated. However, a professional council affirmed that there was no relation between the death and the vaccine quality.
Doctor Nguyen Huu Hung, deputy director of the municipal Department of Health, said the municipal Center for Disease Control (HCDC) had asked vaccination units to continue using the Pfizer vaccine.
The city has received more than 640,000 Pfizer doses from the Ministry of Health.
Pham Duc Hai, deputy head of the municipal anti-Covid steering committee, said the city has administered nearly 9.8 million Covid-19 vaccine doses to local residents, including 6.8 million people receiving the first shot and nearly three million others getting two shots.
Especially, all people aged 50 and above have got the first shot, said HCDC Deputy Director Nguyen Hong Tam.
In related news, the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology today allocated 100,000 AstraZeneca doses to Hanoi. The vaccine, produced in Italy, was donated by Hungary.
Of the 100,000 doses, the Central Lung Hospital received 10,000 doses, Bach Mai Hospital, 8,000 doses, and the Vietnam National Children’s Hospital, Hospital E and Huu Nghi Hospital, 6,000 each. The National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology will retain 51,000 doses.
Hanoi has been provided with nearly 7.5 million Covid-19 vaccine doses and administered some 6.9 million doses.
