CAN THO – The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) has written to the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs proposing raising the cap on overtime to 400 hours a year from 300 hours for all sectors.
The proposal, in an effort to give feedback over a draft resolution concerning overtime, is aimed at offsetting the shortage of workers caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Besides, if the increase in overtime cap is approved, workers will see an increase in their income and orders will be completed promptly, contributing to the sustainable economic development, said VASEP.
Besides, VASEP members reached a consensus to eliminate the monthly cap on overtime hours to create flexible conditions for production, meeting orders after delays due to the pandemic.
VASEP also proposed allowing employers and employees to decide overtime hours rather than applying Article 62 of Decree 145 on the notification of overtime work, making it easier and more convenient for firms to plan overtime work depending on materials and manpower.
Up to 70% of seafood processing facilities have suspended operations for two months, while cities and provinces have been adopting the social distancing order under the prime minister’s Directive 16, according to VASEP.
The remaining 30% of seafood processors have maintained their operations by applying the stay-at-work or the one route-two destination model.
Coronavirus restrictions have resulted in a shortage of materials and laborers, plunging firms into a risk of production and supply chain disruptions.
