HCMC – The Ministry of Transport has announced that the renovation of three national highways in the Mekong Delta will commence within this year.

The road upgrade project will cover national highways 53, 62 and 91B, with funding sourced from World Bank (WB) loans.

A nearly-70-km section of National Highway 62 from Km 4 at the intersection with the HCMC-Trung Luong Expressway to Km 74 in Long An Province will be comprehensively upgraded.

The ministry also proposed upgrading Nga Tu Bridge and a 40-km section from Long Ho to Ba Si in Vinh Long and Tra Vinh provinces. A section of National Highway 91B passing through Can Tho, Hau Giang, Soc Trang and Bac Lieu will be upgraded with a total length of 140 km.

Once these upgrades are completed, the three national highways will be 11 meters wide, featuring two mixed-traffic lanes for automobiles and rudimentary vehicles.

According to the Ministry of Transport, the project will require over VND9,300 billion, with VND6,300 billion coming from the World Bank and the remainder from Vietnam as reciprocal capital.

It will take four years to get the project completed.
