HCMC – Germany’s Siemens has shown interest in contributing to Vietnam’s transportation infrastructure, particularly in the high-speed railway sector.

During a meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on February 26, Roland Busch, president and CEO of Siemens Corporation, discussed potential cooperation in the North-South express railway project.

Busch said Siemens could provide trains and train cars for the high-speed railway project, along with railway signal systems and technology transfer for train car production. The North-South high-speed railway project is slated to begin construction by 2030, with a completion target of 2045.

In addition to the high-speed rail project, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh proposed Siemens get involved in other transportation projects in Vietnam, including urban railway construction such as HCMC Metro Line No. 2, technology transfer, and the development of the railway industry, including metro tunnel excavation.

The PM also encouraged Siemens to expand cooperation with Vietnam in high technology, innovation, green transition, and renewable energy sectors, promising favorable conditions for German investors.

Siemens, renowned for its expertise in various sectors including industry, healthcare, traffic, and smart infrastructure development, has already been active in Vietnam on multiple fronts, particularly in renewable energy and transportation.

Some major projects include the modernization of railway signal systems at Vinh station, lighting systems at Noi Bai International Airport’s internal roads, and an automatic freight handling system at Tan Son Nhat International Airport.
